Chicory (also Witloof, Belgian endive) 19 Mar, John de Kleuver (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Chicory - Witloof. I live in northern NSW and my planting guide says plant chicory seed in March. Plants have all germinated and I will transplant to 20cm apart. Just want to know how high they may grow? And at what time should I pull up roots and "force" them? Thankyou John

Beans - dwarf (also French beans, Bush beans) 19 Mar, peggy (Australia - temperate climate)

Beans - dwarf (also French beans, Bush beans) 19 Jul, Andy (Australia - temperate climate)
Beans (and peas for that matter) have a habit of dropping immature pods if watering is inconsistent or inadequate. Thicker mulch layer with help retain soil moisture
Rhubarb 19 Mar, Olwen Berge (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
When should you stop feeding the rhubarb plants? When picking the stems, I was told to only take one quarter of the stems at a time, and have had a good continuous supply. Have 2 red stemmed plants and one with green stems, both taste the same!

Artichokes (Globe) 18 Mar, Eric (Australia - tropical climate)
I am actually in Brazil in the tropical highlands. Most of the rain falls in the summer average high temperature is 28. I have lots of violet artichokes grown from seed acquired in Brazil and also in Spain. All the plants are doing well but the first to produce were planted with and in a linear row under Hawaiian papayas...which provide a bit of shade, They are pretty carefree... no pests..even my goats do not bother with them...and they eat most everthing... Oil pickled artichokes are a treat and are unheard of here... the little violet chokes are the best for that purpose...
Artichokes (Globe) 09 Feb, Romel Madray (Australia - tropical climate)

Can you provide me with any guidance on germinating seeds direct sowing, paper towel method. If any special care is needed for vegetative growth and flowering. Are you willing to sell some seeds that you have or trade seeds?I am also seeking to get Eugenia involucrata, the Cherry of the Rio Grande. Can I contact you directly? Regards

Capsicum (also Bell peppers, Sweet peppers) 18 Mar, Doug adams (Australia - temperate climate)
Why are my capsicum falling off when small
Capsicum (also Bell peppers, Sweet peppers) 31 Mar, Lorna (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi Doug and you will find it is usually high temperatures that cause it and they simply fall off, don't worry you will get more on the plant. We plant ours in an area that are protected from the midday sun to stop the vegetable drop and have found that helps. We fertilise with Seasol once a fortnight and give them a side dressing of AG lime. Capsicums love calcium and this makes the walls of the vegetables thick and healthy. Alternatively you can crush up washed and dried egg shells and place them around the base of the plant & dig in. Happy gardening

I have 1 long green cattle water trough with a plug for drainage. Have filled it with a mix of soul, compost and chicken manure. I will try and grow on row in that and see how we go. It is hot and humid here so will have to see how it goes. Also have a half small rainwater tank with a good mix of compost and soil and will also try to grow some in that. Fingers crossed.

Bright yellow leaves at the tip of the plant what is the soil deficient in? I live just outside of Gympie
Tomato 28 Apr, Tania (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Hi Phillip, yellow leaves tend to mean you need more calcium in the soil.... try some chicken manure.

Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 14 Mar, Cal (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi, keen to start growing some naga or similar - I'm based in Sydney and am aware that summer is ending as I write this, will this delay the germination/growth/harvest or are they quite resilient to seasons? I intend on using a heat map in my apartment to begin with, before potting and moving outside onto a balcony. Let me know if this sounds like it'll work - all advice appreciated!

Jerusalem Artichokes (also Sunchoke) 23 May, JimboC (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi natcha nottle I grew Jerusalem Artichokes for the first time last season. They came up a treat with little to no extra care required! I'm in Newcastle NSW and grew them in a sandy soil but I gather they are quite hardy and tolerate a lot of different climates and soil types. I got my Jerusalem Artichokes from the Diggers Club They sent me three tubers which all came up when planted and produced a LOT more tubers which I am harvesting now. Hope that helps. JimboC
