(Best months for growing Marrow in USA - Zone 5a regions)

  • S = Plant undercover in seed trays
  • P = Sow seed
  • Grow in seed trays, and plant out in 4-6 weeks. Sow seed at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed. Best planted at soil temperatures between 68°F and 95°F. (Show °C/cm)
  • Space plants: 35 - 47 inches apart
  • Harvest in 12-17 weeks.
  • Compatible with (can grow beside): Peas, Beans, Onions, Sweetcorn
  • Avoid growing close to: Potatoes

My mother did exactly the same at our place in Burwood Victoria. Beautiful gravy over it after being stuffed with mince onion etc. and that was about 1955. Yum! Was talking about it today at work and the fellow workers all Queenslanders didn't know what I was talking about. Would love to grow them here in Gladstone. I grow Zucchinis and pumpkins without any hassle so why not. Just need some seeds!

I have been looking for marrow seeds for ages and finally found them recently in Masters. I am going to plant a couple and see how they go but not sure if 22 Nov is too late. Soon find out I suppose :)

Do you mean the light green ones ? shaped like a bell ?. I have planted some this season - they've gone mad (people are avoiding me in the street in case I give them another zucchini). They are called Lebanese zucchinis and my husband stuffs them - the seed is faily readily available - think I got mine at Bunnngs

I tried for ages in aus finished up getting them from uk via ebay they arrived last december about $6.00

A marrow is NOT an over grown zucchini, they are members of the same genus, but different plants. I live in England, and use marrows a lot in August - December. I have a family member in Q L D, and visit every year. Would like to grow some while I'm there, but can not find any seeds!!

Marrow also makes a delicious marrow and roasted garlic soup which is equally good whether served hot or cold
