(Best months for growing Asparagus in USA - Zone 5a regions)

  • S = Plant undercover in seed trays
  • T = Plant out (transplant) seedlings
  • Easy to grow. Plant as crowns. Best planted at soil temperatures between 61°F and 86°F. (Show °C/cm)
  • Space plants: 8 - 16 inches apart
  • Harvest in 2-3 years. Plant 'crowns' to harvest earlier .
  • Compatible with (can grow beside): Parsley, Basil, Nasturtiums, Lettuce
  • Avoid growing close to: Garlic, Onions, and root vegetables

I need some advise I planted some seeds about two years ago,and it grew bot it looks like fennel were to after this.

I have to leave my rental place, but my asparagus are still in full, green fern. Can I dig them up to take with me?. I don't want to leave them, nor do I want to kill them by digging them up. I only have a week before leaving. Please help. Thankyou.

please I need some advice on growing asparagus from seed... I planted some last year and my goodness some weird looking plants grew from that...I can send you some photos if you have an email address... sorry by the way we live in Serenje, North East Zambia and we have rainy summer from August till April and then a dry winter from May to July. I PUT IN SOME ASPARAGUS SEED ABOUT END OF DEC THE FERNS ARE ABOUT 3IN HIGH CAN I PLANT THEM IN THE GARDEN OR SHOULD I LEAVE THEM TILL WINTER

I just bought asparagus "Plugs" From Hart Nursery in Ottery. They are R2.00 per plug, which is so reasonable. Happy gardening. M

Crowns for johannesburg area. Names of nurseries wHo sell. Have only got results of 5 seedlings from 3 packets of seeds. Also can water occasionally with salty water?

The birds will eat the red berries on the female asparagus and they flick the seeds all over the place .. also could be you moved some soil from around the asparagus and moved it to another part of the garden .. not knowing seedlings was in the soil .. ive done this many of times . Oddly enough, you can transplant those new shoots (and roots) in another location .. give them away .. or just destroy them. i would class the new asparagus as first year despite the size of it .. mine normally take 2 -3 years before they are really a harvestable size . They will live to 15 years
