Right now my tomatoes are very big and look almost successful however they arn't turning red?! A few of them have but the rest are just happy sitting in greenville for quite some time. I would love some help! I planted around october from memory. Its they are beefsteaks. Thank you so much for your help. I would love to show my 7 year old that we can do this!

Hi Belinda, when I grew tomatoes in Armidale NSW, I used to pick them just as they started to turn, the put them somewhere dark and ripen them that way. Worked every time. Also didn't have to worry as much about birds and critters!

I find the best way to harvest rhubarb is: hold the stalk (flat hand) close to the ground (about 3/4 of the way down) -- push the stalk sideways and backwards (45 degree angle out away from the plant) -- once you hear the snap, grab the stalk twist and pull simultaneously.

When they reach a good size, pick them. The longer you leave them the tougher and less flavor. Planting to harvest time is a good guide.

To pollinate snap off a yellow protuberance from the male. Gently push the protuberance into the middle of the yellow female, right into the center, and leave it there. That's it!

Best to find someone who grows them which could be very difficult. I have researched about shallots so much 60-80 hrs. I have grown them for 40+years. I have the ones that are purple skin when harvested and then have a brown outer skin after maturing. I planted 50 three weeks ago and 100+ this morning. Asian ladies buy them to use in sauces. I keep bulbs from one year for the next year planting. I'm in Qld Australia. Try looking on the internet for seed selling sites.

What's better to keep for planting the next season? I have had a great harvest this year from 10 bulbs planted in July. The harvested bulbs are varied in sizes. I want to save some for planting but I'm not sure to save the big or small bulbs due planting. I would appreciate advise. THANKYOU

Summer brings rain - rain brings insects and grubs. Look on the leaves at night time and pinch off. Use some chemical sprays or organic mix. Any general fertiliser.
